1947 The start...
Captain Alberth Neess, born 1900, starts together with his wife Edith the business August 16,1947 in the centre of Copenhagen. From a humble start, right after the Second World War, the shop grows and becomes a major centre in the Danish chess life. Captain Neess starts manufacturing Rajah Travel Chess in different sizes and famous magnetic Demonstration Board in 4 parts, yellow/black, that still is to watch at many tournaments around the world and Mr Neess made many other inventions.
1973 New owner
Stellan Persson, born 1936, ELO about 2200, takes over in January 1973 and continues to enlarge and improve the business. Book publishing under the name Dansk Skakforlag had many new titles in English and Danish, for example the first book in the world written about Garri Kasparov Chess prodigy from Baku (title) published in 1980! Author is Eric Brondum, who also wrote Bent Larsen the Fighter, un update including GM Larsen´s best years.
1973 The Towerclock
In 1973 Skakhuset introduced the TOWERCLOCK to the Danish Chessworld and after a few Years all Chess clubs, Districts and the Federation preferred to use this reliable clock. Many of the largest ChessDistricts in Denmark own today more than 100 Towerclocks!
1978 Electronic chess
Electronic chess came in 1978 and Skakhuset became immediately the leading firm in Scandinavia with agencies for the marks Morphy, Novag, Fidelity and Mephisto.
1998 Internet sales
In November 1998 Skakhuset Danmark ApS changed the business to Internet sales and Mail Orders only, thereby closing the business room at Studiestraede 24 in Copenhagen, where it once started.
At the end of the year 2002 the Chess business for Stellan Persson turns 30 years, and the name Skakhuset has served the Chess life for 55 years in total.
